CHAPTER FIFTEEN

When Tyrone was done training Nathaniel, he sent him back to his room. After washing his face and freshening up, he went to find Tia. She sat on the sofa, legs folded beneath her, reading a book. Tyrone went to sit next to her. She didn’t move or acknowledge him. He cleared his throat.

‘I’ve spoken with him. He knows not to mess up like that again.’

Tia cut her eyes to her husband.

‘Is that your way of apologising?’

‘Look, we both said some things. Now, we’re gonna work past it.’

‘Work past it how? How’s it going to look to people that our son is a little thief? It’s embarrassing. Makes us look poor.’

‘It’s gonna be cool. No one will care about what he did. If they do, it’ll be for five minutes until the next thing comes along.’

‘How can you be so sure that he won’t do it again? Does he understand the risk? Does he know that it’s going on his record if they press charges?’

‘It’s not gonna get that far.’

‘He hasn’t learned anything. This is the point, Ty. Is he actually never going to do it again, or is he just going to aim to be smarter next time?’ Tia asked.

‘You don’t need to worry about it. I’ll handle the parents and keep an eye on Nat. It’ll be fine.’ Tyrone kissed Tia on the cheek. ‘Make me a cup of tea, please, love.’
